For a long time, I have abandoned using a personal log a way of recording my thoughts and feelings, but as a brand-new Commanding Officer of a very large ship, I think I will give this a go again. Earlier this week, I have met my XO. Commander Korval is a Klingon. Now I have met my share of Klingons in my day, I even had a Klingon bunkmate at the academy. I understand that Klingons are somewhat stoic. Yes, they are honor and duty bound, which I respect, but do they ever smile? I have never seen one smile. Commander Korval is a highly decorated officer. His record is impressive I must say. Before joining StarFleet, he was in the KDF (Klingon Defense Force). As he has told me, he was groomed never to challenge his CO, but I feel that is the wrong way of thinking. I do not mean for him to challenge my authority, no. What I mean by challenging me is my decision making. The role of the XO is to be my right hand, but sometimes the right hand knows more than left. I will look to Commander Korval as my confidant in all matters, where I have to make the right call. I know that I can't do that alone. That is why "Number 1" or so what we like to call our XO's. I want to him to correct me, when I forget things. I want him to challenge me when I want to go down to unexplored world, when my place is on the ship.

The symbiont is excited for this venture. It is a mass understanding for a newly commissioned CO. I am ready for this. I am so ready for this. I just hope the crew is as well. We are going to be going into a sector of space that just recently opened its arms to us. What we find on the other side of the wormhole, be it friend or foe, I have no doubt in my mind that this crew will be ready for everything.

A few reminders for myself:
1. I need to remember to send Gregory a subspace message. I do miss him terribly.
2. I need to send him pictures of Rosco. Rosco misses him too. He is currently curled up at my feet and licking at the spots on forefoot.
3. As soon as the work is finished on the hull and we get the green light from Space Dock control that we can get underway that I need to send the welcome ship wide address to the crew and the families aboard. It's customary.

What that is all the reminders.

So I am going to close this personal log for the night.
